Data Collection and Click-Stream Data
Browsing any website, including the site, generates a trail of the pages that are visited, and the time apparently spent displaying each page. Click streams are the paths a user takes when navigating a website and the Internet in general.
When you visit our site, our servers may record the following information for statistical purposes:
- The user’s server (IP) address and machine name
- The date and time of visit to the site
- The pages accessed and documents downloaded
- The number of bytes transmitted and received for each request
- The address of the referring page visited
- Search terms used
- The type of browser used
Western Australian Government Trade & Investment Office examines this information to determine the traffic through the server, and to specific pages or applications, in order to deliver better services.
No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except in the unlikely event of an investigation, or the need to determine details related to a security breach or other inappropriate activity.
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s computer tied to information about the user. Western Australian Government Trade & Investment Office uses only session ID cookies and, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. Cookies can be easily blocked on your computer by simply un-checking the “accept cookies” option in your web browser. This can be found under the options menu of your Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Explorer browser software.

Links To Other Websites
Western Australian Government Trade & Investment Office may decide to link to other websites which contain related information. The Department is not responsible for the content of any linked sites.
A link to a site does not imply that the Department endorses that site or the organisation operating that site, it is for reference purposes only.
Western Australian Government Trade & Investment Office may link to a site that collects information about the user and we cannot control the collection of this information. Users should contact these content providers directly if there are any questions about the use of information they collect. These sites and services may have their own privacy policies, or no policy at all. We encourage users to review the privacy policies of any third party sites or services before providing them with personal information.
When linking to an external website, text around the link will make it clear to the user that they are about to leave the Western Australian Government Trade & Investment Office website. Links should open as externally linked pages in a new browser window – the external site will not be framed within the DoIR website.
Organisations linking to DoIR’s Website
Western Australian Government Trade & Investment Office encourages appropriate links to it’s website but reserves the right to refuse any such link or to terminate an existing link if the Department deems it to be inappropriate.
We seek feedback from our users in order to improve the privacy and security safeguards utilised by the Department – please contact – firstname.lastname@example.org .
The Internet is not a secure network, and as such, information you send may be intercepted by others.
Western Australian Government Trade & Investment Office uses Secure Socket Layer encryption (SSL) to encrypt the transmission of any sensitive information, such as credit card details and on-line order transactions. Credit card details are NOT stored on our server. Each encrypted order is immediately transferred to our sales staff for offline processing. The use of this technology reduces but does not eliminate the risks of sending information over the Internet.
You can verify that SSL has been activated by checking:
- That the Web address begins with https rather than just http, or
- That a padlock is displayed, usually at the bottom of the page. If the site is insecure some browsers may show an open padlock .
You should check your browser’s help facility for further information on security.
You should always verify that SSL has been activated before transmitting sensitive information.
Information you send us is stored behind the DoIR firewall.
Any of your information, (apart from usage logs), that is on our server outside the firewall is always encrypted, and moved inside the firewall at the earliest opportunity.
Accountability (Applicable to both Privacy and Security)
Under DoIR policy staff who operate and manage the DoIR Website are required to operate in a way that aligns with the Commonwealth’s – Privacy Act 1988.
